Last year I decided to grow a few vegetables. I also invested in some fruit trees which grow in large pots. These are, an apple tree, pear tree, cherry tree, and a blueberry bush.
The vegetables I grew last year were, tomatoes, cucumber, and salad leaves. This year I am growing, new potatoes, tomatoes, courgette's, pumpkin, cucumber, radish, salad leaves, herbs, sweetcorn, and strawberries.
I am not digging up the garden though, I am using containers of different shapes and sizes on my patio. Yes, I am having to purchase compost bags which unfortunately are plastic, but I am not throwing the bags away, they are being used elsewhere in the garden, weed suppressors in my flower borders is one example. I have a composter, and I have started filling it with garden cuttings and peelings etc. I am sure you have some containers which can be used for various veg seeds, have a go, you might find a new hobby, particularly when farming methods and the air miles of some vegetables are being questioned.
Is there an answer to the compost bag problem, apart from using your own composter, is there an alternative and how can we get our garden center's to implement it? Let me know the answer to that one.
